Shoulder Pain

The shoulder is an incredibly mobile joint, able to move in many different directions. This amazing fact is also what makes the shoulder very susceptible to injury. Shoulder injuries can significantly impact your daily activities. Proper spinal alignment and posture is critical for well functioning shoulders.

The shoulder joint is a ball and socket joint is held together by numerous muscles, ligaments and tendons. Due to this there are many potential conditions that arise within the shoulder. Conditions affecting the shoulder: bursitis, frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), rotator cuff tears and strains, tendinopathies, A/C joint sprains and many more.

Common causes of shoulder problems:

  • Poor posture/spinal alignment (in particular rounded shoulders)

  • Prolonged Sitting/inactivity

  • Repetitive Movements (especially overhead)

  • Sporting Injuries/ trauma

  • Overuse/repetitive strain injuries

  • Poor Sleeping Positions

What is the most common cause of shoulder pain?

Once we have ruled out any underlying disease or problem, the most common cause of shoulder pain are generally mechanical in nature.

In particular, poor spinal alignment and poor posture. When the shoulder joints roll forward, this places significant stress and pressure on the joints and surrounding muscles. This causes a whole variety of dysfunction. The alignment of the neck also plays a large role in shoulder problems.

How chiropractic helps people with shoulder pain:

At The Spine Hub Norwood we take a holistic approach with shoulder pain, we treat your entire body, not just where you experience pain. There can be many factors involved with what is causing your shoulder pain, so it is essential we provide an accurate diagnosis.

Our process involves an initial consultation which allows us to determine if we are in fact the right people to help you. If we are not, we will be sure to refer you to the people who can. If we deem that we can help you, you will move on to an examination.

During this examination process, we will perform a range of orthopaedic, postural, neurological, and musculoskeletal tests in order to find out what is the problem. Once we have all of this information, we will report back to you with our findings.

At this stage you may be referred to get X-rays to aid our diagnosis.

From here we will create a personalised treatment plan, designed to help you recover naturally. Our treatment approach will include spinal adjustments, adjustments to the joints of the body, muscle work, plus the prescription of rehab exercises and stretches to improve posture.

With shoulder pain, we will also look at the lifestyle factors that have led to the injury and help you make modifications as necessary to prevent future instances.
